Janet Dawson is one of Australia's leading artists.
This book was published to coincide with the major retrospective "Far Away, So Close" held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney in 2025. It features over 80 works from 1953 to 2018, as well as archival photographs.
Although perhaps not well-known in Japan, she is a pioneer of abstract expression and an artist with a unique realistic style. Her style resonates with the Japanese aesthetic, giving a sense of familiarity.
This title brings to mind Wim Wenders' former film "Wings of Desire" and its sequel, "Faraway, So Close!"
While the artists' modes of expression and perspectives may differ, I felt a shared sentiment in this title across both works.
